A dog up for adoption at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society has an uncanny resemblance to an Albany icon.

Pepe is a 2-year-old terrier mix looking for his forever home. But his white and black markings are nearly identical to Nipper, the 28-foot tall canine statue that sits on top of a warehouse on North Broadway in downtown Albany.

Pepe is an energetic, friendly dog that loves treats and being outside. He’s looking to go to a home with older children. While he gets along with other dogs, he’d prefer to be the only dog in the home.

Mohawk Hudson CEO Ashley Jeffrey Bouck says he’s a perfect fit with a Capital Region family because of his resemblance to Nipper.

“It’s just so crazy that the fact that we all here in the Capital Region have that Nipper icon,” she said. “As soon as you come into Albany, you recognize it. The fact that we have a very much so look alike here at the Humane Society is just great.”
