1. Norlite temporarily shutting down Cohoes plant

Norlite says it's temporarily closing its manufacturing and waste burning plant in Cohoes, affecting more than two dozen employees. It said it's "temporarily shutting down core operations as it looks to reduce its inventory, inspect and repair equipment and re-evaluating operations in New York.

2. Maryland Gov. says bridge collapse appears to be accident, 'no credible evidence' of terrorism

Authorities say an accident likely caused a container ship to ram into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, causing it to plunge into the river below. Six workers who were on the bridge at the time repairing potholes are still unaccounted for, while a “mayday” call from the ship saved lives, officials said.

3. Mental health app looks to aid first responders

Police, firefighters and EMTs are making their mental health more of a priority. The Albany County sheriff's office is going a step further, creating an app that will help connect first responders and their families. 

4. Jabir retiring as Siena College women's basketball coach after long career

Jim Jabir announced his retirement as Siena College women's head basketball coach following a 36-year collegiate coaching career that included his stints at Siena from 1987 to 1990 and 2021 until the present, according to an announcement made Tuesday afternoon by the college.

5. Eligibility for VA health care expanded under the PACT Act

Veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during service can enroll in healthcare services for a wide variety of issues at the VA thanks to an extension of the PACT Act. 

6. What NASA scientists hope to learn during the total solar eclipse

NASA will study the sun’s atmosphere, or corona, and look at the sun’s effect on the ionosphere — a part of the Earth’s atmosphere that acts as a conduit for communications and navigation signals. Disturbances in the ionosphere can cause issues with GPS.
