1. Source: New York lawmakers have agreement to expand child tax credit

New York lawmakers have reached an agreement with Gov. Kathy Hochul to expand the child tax credit in the state to include children under the age of 4, a source familiar with the talks said Thursday. Expanding the tax credit is expected to be included in a finalized budget agreement, which could be struck this week.

2. FBI: Three Rensselaer County officials accused of conspiring to cast illegal ballots in 2021 elections  

Richard Crist, the county’s director of operations, County Central Services Director James Gordon and Leslie Wallace, 35, who works for the county executive’s office, were arrested and arraigned on an indictment charging them with conspiring to violate the rights of Rensselaer County voters, according to the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI Albany office.

3. Mother becomes advocate for sexual assault victims

Because victims are wary of someone believing them, experts aren’t confident with final data numbers. According to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, more than 75% of sexual assaults go unreported. Of every 1,000 sexual assaults, only 230 are reported to police. Of those, 46 are estimated to lead to an arrest and only nine statistically make it to court.

4. Protections for renters against lead-based paint in New York advances

New York lawmakers want more protections and redress for renters in the state who are exposed to lead-based paint in their homes. Legislation advanced Wednesday in the state Assembly that would bar the exclusion of coverage for losses or damages by the exposure to lead paint from liability coverage to rental property owners.

5. Lawmakers unveil bipartisan bill to mandate Supreme Court code of conduct

A pair of Senate lawmakers on Wednesday unveiled a bipartisan bill that would force the Supreme Court to adopt a code of conduct in the wake of recent controversies surrounding reports of justices on the high court not disclosing travel, property sales and other gifts.

6. UAlbany’s Sibley working toward NFL dream

Great Danes’ Pro Day was an opportunity for the University at Albany running back to show off his strength, speed, agility and explosiveness in front of NFL scouts.
