1. How the largest school districts in New York spent pandemic aid

The analysis by the comptroller's office assessed how the five largest school districts in New York state — New York City, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester and Yonkers — spent their combined $8.6 billion in funds from the federal government. The money was initially approved by Congress to help schools and students narrow learning and achievement gaps created by the public health crisis.

2. Cannabis industry blossoming in Ellenville

As New York state’s marijuana industry continues to blossom, as the once solely recreational substance is legalized and used for medicinal purposes, one stakeholder is putting down roots in a 50,000-square foot Hudson Valley warehouse that will support 75 immediate jobs to the Ellenville area, and 375 once it is up and running.

3. Where voter turnout dropped, rose in NY and its impact on the 2022 election results

Fewer New Yorkers cast ballots in the 2022 elections than they did in the prior midterm and statewide elections four years ago, preliminary numbers show. The steepest declines in voting were in the New York City boroughs, which are crucial to Democratic chances of winning statewide in New York.

4. House races in 6 states will determine balance in Congress

Nearly a week after Election Day and control of the House of Representatives remains up in the air, with key races in six states to decide it, likely by close margins.  

5. New York attorney general warns online ammo dealers to comply with SAFE Act

A review by Letitia James' office found 39 dealers have been shipping directly to state residents, violating the 2013 gun law known as the SAFE Act. Cease and desist letters have been set to the online outlets.

6. Biden cheers midterms, but predicts Democrats may fall short on votes to codify Roe

At a press conference in Indonesia following his meeting with China's President Xi Jinping, President Joe Biden celebrated the results of the midterm elections, which saw Democrats retain control of the Senate and blunt Republican gains in the House.
