A Rotterdam man faces numerous felony charges after police say child pornography was found on his laptop.

In addition to having more than 100 images of the child pornography, police say Chandler Whitaker’s computer also had a video that showed him having sexual contact with an eight-year-old girl.

The 23-year-old Rotterdam man was arrested on Wednesday after police received a call from Computer Repair and Technologies. Whitaker allegedly dropped his computer off at the Altamont Avenue business for repairs, which is where one of the employees found the images when working on the device.

Whitaker was then arrested and charged with five counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, sexual abuse in the first degree, as well as weapons and drug charges, after police say they found an illegally modified A-R 15 assault rifle at his home, along with marijuana.

As the investigation moves forward, officers are now working to determine if Whitaker has any other alleged victims.

“We have no information at this point [that] there are any other local victims, however, if there are, we are encouraging anyone, any child who may have been exposed to Mr. Whitaker or their parents, to reach out to us if they feel there was any inappropriate contact,” said Rotterdam Police Lieutenant Bill Male.

Whitaker was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to all charges. His bail has been set at $40,000. He is due back at the Rotterdam Town Court on Wednesday evening.

Anyone who thinks their child may have been a victim of Whittaker is asked to contact detectives at 518-355-7397.
