Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says a deputy has tested positive for COVID-19.

The sheriff said the deputy, who was assigned to the transportation division of the county's judicial center, reports weak knees and a headache, but is otherwise feeling good. As a result of the positive test, nine other deputies have been quarantined.

"We're talking with all the other deputy sheriffs and we're tracing everything back to everybody that he touched or may have been in contact with," Apple said. "At this point, we don't see any huge issues, other than taking some precautionary measures."

Overall, the county now has 41 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, according to County Executive Daniel McCoy.

One of the new cases comes from the Teresian House Center for the Elderly. The individual is hospitalized, according to officials. There are 15 people who live in the section of the building that was affected; currently, officials say the case appears to be contained.
