May was sort of a wild ride for us around the 518. It was marked by a prolonged stretch of cold during the first half of the month, which also included accumulating snow for parts of the region on May 8-9. Some spots in Washington and Bennington (Vermont) counties saw close to a foot of snow.
A week later, the region saw its first major severe weather outbreak of the season. A line of damaging thunderstorms moved through during the late afternoon/early evening, knocking down trees and power lines. Saratoga County was the hardest hit, with more than 30,000 customers without power at one point. The town of Wilton also saw a brief EF-1 tornado.
The third week of the month featured some of our best weather of 2020 thus far, with mainly dry weather and slightly above average temperatures. One could argue this Memorial Day weekend was the nicest in several years.
Dry, hot, summer-like weather continued into the last week of the month. The dry weather ended on 29th with our second severe weather outbreak of the month, which included another EF-1 tornado, this time in Warren County.
In terms of precipitation, it was a very dry month with officially a trace of snow at Albany International Airport.
So what can we expect the month of June to bring weather-wise? After a couple of cool days to begin the month, it doesn't look like we have any intense summer-time heat in the forecast through the first half of next week.
