We’ve seen a historically warm start to the month of November.

What You Need To Know

  • For only the second time, Buffalo set new record highs three days in the row during the month of November

  • We recorded our second-warmest temperature on record for the month on the 5th

  • The middle of the month is at the very least looking a lot more seasonable

Through the first week, we’ve set three new high temperatures and recorded the second-warmest temperature on record for November when we hit 79 degrees this past Saturday. The warmest temperature ever recorded during the month of November here in Buffalo is 80 degrees on Nov. 3, 1961.

We’ve never been this warm through the first six days of this month, with an average temperature of 59.5 degrees. Not only is that 14.3 degrees above average for that stretch, it’s also 11.6 degrees above the record warmest November. The warmest November was in 1931, which had an average temperature of 47.9 degrees.

We still have lots of November left with the coldest half of the month ahead of us, so the current average monthly temperature will come down. But, how much is the question. We still have plenty of warmth to come with a potential second round of near-record, if not record, warmth this Friday.

There does look to be a pattern shift later this weekend into next week with temperatures overall running much more seasonable. As you can see in the map below, much of the colder air that’s been bottled up our west will expand eastward. Along with the seasonably chilly weather will come chances for lake-effect and possible some wintry precipitation.

However, there's no denying the first 11 or so days of this month are and will be historically warm.
