BUFFALO, N.Y. — City of Buffalo snow removal crews have been busy as another winter storm hits Western New York.
However, city leaders are still dealing with frustration from residents after it took several days or longer to clear out from snow storms last month.
Michael Finn, the city’s Department of Public Works commissioner, on Thursday afternoon said plows have been working on main and secondary roads, and they’ve started working on the side streets.
The residential streets are tougher to clear because of cars parked on the side. The city says they’ve stepped up enforcement of the alternate parking rules, and in this case, they’re acting quicker to tow and ticket cars parked on the wrong side.
"It's a partnership between the city and the residents," said Mayor Byron Brown. "And there are literally thousands of vehicles that were parked illegally, making it difficult or impossible to get down some residential streets."
Finn and Mayor Brown both say they’ve followed the city’s snow removal plan and on Thursday alone they’ve towed 50 illegally parked cars, but compliance with the parking rules has been better.
Erie County trucks are also assisting in clearing some roads near Elmwood and Delaware avenues.
