BUFFALO, N.Y. — It was a blustery day in Buffalo Tuesday.

Many people were home as cold, wind and snow moved into the area.

For many, it was a “keep the shovel handy” kind of day with snow moving in and out of the area.

It’s all just part of winter in Western New York

“It’s fun. You get to come outside. I was about to bring my little brother out, but it was too cold for him, my mom said he's in the house,” said Giovanni Mendez, as he shoveled out his family’s driveway. “You've got to get it done. Someone's got to get it done, you know what I mean?”

It wasn’t all hard work. There was all sorts of fun to be had.

Spectrum News 1 Buffalo caught up with one man who’s keeping in shape for running season by going out for a casual 10-mile run in the snow, which he says actually provides more traction than you might think.

“I run every time I have a day off, for sure,” said Tim Benjamin, of Tonawanda. “You can't let weather impede on your plans. I mean, I'm from Buffalo. This is not bad at all. We're used to this kind of thing.”

Spectrum News 1 Buffalo also found some kids making the most of a snow day out on the lake.

“We can shoot here. There's a lot of rules at other places. We can just come hang out here.” said John Dunn, of Buffalo. ”I got exams tomorrow, so we gotta lock in soon, but we should be good.“

Of course, if you’re enjoying any winter activity, make sure to be safe, especially if they’re over water.

Otherwise, it was not an impossible day to get out and about. Certainly take your time, and make sure you’re prepped with supplies in case you get stuck, especially as night creeps in and those temperatures drop.
