BUFFALO, N.Y. — The new roller skating rink at Canalside in Buffalo opens Friday. It will be open to enjoy for the remainder of summer and into fall.

This 30,000 square foot rink is the largest outdoor roller rink in the entire state. Canalside has plans for themed skating nights and silent discos.

The hobby was huge in the 1970s and many people never put their skates away. Groups like the 716 Rollers plan to be at the rink as much as possible to help people learn to skate and have a good time themselves.

"I won’t even say skating is making a comeback. Skating is back," said Michael Farrow, vice president of the 716 Rollers. "Like you can’t find skates nowhere. You can try to go online if you wear like between a nine and a half and a 12 it’s gonna be hard for you to find skates. Skating is not on a comeback, skating is back!”

Michael says he is passionate about showing people how fun and therapeutic skating can be.

The roller rink at Canalside opens at 5 p.m. Friday.

Adults are $6 and kids 13 and under are $2. Skate rentals are available.
