UPDATE 11/5/2024:
The New York State Police have identified the Thruway Authority maintenance supervisor who was killed as Stephen Ebling, 58, of Eden.
They say Ebling was standing at the front of his vehicle on the shoulder of the road when a man driving a 2024 Honda veered over the hazard markings toward the New York State Thruway vehicle. To avoid a potential collision, Ebling ran into the passing lane of I-90 and was struck by the Honda after it corrected back into the left lane, police say.
Troopers say the driver of the Honda has been cooperative during the investigation, which is still ongoing. Police have not said whether the driver will face any charges.

New York State Police say the part of the Thruway was shut down on Monday due to a crash that killed a maintenance worker.
According to police, the maintenance worker was struck around 8 a.m. as they were standing outside their Thruway Authority vehicle. Investigators say it happened on the westbound side, just before exit 58, in the town of Hanover.
That section of the Thruway was shut down for several hours while an investigation into the crash took place. All lanes of traffic have since reopened.
Gov. Kathy Hochul released this statement addressing the death of the Thruway Authority employee:
Police have not yet released the identity of the worker or whether the driver will face any charges.
