It has now been one week since the manhunt began for Jamestown murder and kidnapping suspect Michael Burham after he escaped from a Warren County, Pa. prison last Thursday.
On Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police released a photo of a stash of items they found in the woods near Warren, Pa. that they believe belong to Burham.
“It contained clothing, some food and some other materials that someone might need if they were trying to exist in the woods,” Lt. Col. George Bivens said of the items found by police.
Authorities say the reward for information leading to Burham’s capture has now been increased to $22,000.
Burham was being held on $1 million bail and was charged with kidnapping, burglary and other counts. Burham is accused of killing Kala Hodgkin in Jamestown in May and kidnapping an elderly couple in Pennsylvania.
Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt is moving forward with his homicide case against Burham in New York state.
Schmidt says the manhunt has no impact on his case as his team waits for lab results and sifts through evidence. However, he say the more time that passes, the more he says he worries about Hodgkin’s children, as well as the community.
"You got to lock your doors,” Schmidt said. “And if you see something, say something. This is a whole different world that we're living in right now, and the protocol has to be different."
Investigators believe he is armed and dangerous and say they are interviewing potential accomplices.
