The Town of Hamburg police captain has now been charged after an alleged domestic incident at his home.
The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Christopher Monaco was arraigned on an obstruction of governmental administration charge, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year behind bars.
Authorities say police arrived at his home around 11:30 p.m. on May 11 after a 911 hangup call.
The DA's Office alleges Monaco attempted to prevent the officers from conducting their investigation by ordering the victim to not provide a statement.
Monaco was released and is due back in court next month.
An order of protection was not issued.
In the meantime, the Hamburg town supervisor says Monaco has been suspended without pay while their investigation continues.
