Western New York's largest food bank says its ability to grow produce for the community has been impacted after someone broke into the facility and stole multiple pieces of equipment.
Officials with FeedMore Western New York say police are investigating after the suspect was captured on surveillance footage breaking into vehicles and indoor farming facilities early Saturday morning in Buffalo's Lovejoy community. The thefts involve the food bank's mobile Farm Market trucks and two hydroponic container farms, officials say.
The suspect is accused of stealing cameras, a television, a laptop and LED lights used in the hydroponic container farms. The food bank says the thief caused extensive damage to the trucks and the indoor farms in the process, of which FeedMore WNY is still assessing the full extent, and how it will impact its ability to operate its normal Farm Market schedule.
The Buffalo Police Department says this is an ongoing investigation.
