After agreeing to a $150 million settlement with hundreds of survivors of sex abuse, the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo is holding meetings to discuss how much it will cost local churches.
In a notice released Thursday, the diocese says it's hosting internal meetings with area priests to discuss their settlement funding strategy.
Funding will be derived from diocese funds and involve contributions from local parishes and church affiliates.
"In the next several weeks, meetings with lay leadership from all parishes will be held to discuss information on the progress made in reaching an agreement, and the expectations on parishes as we together work to fulfill our financial obligations to the claimants," the diocese said in a press release.
The diocese announced that massive settlement with clergy sexual abuse survivors last month, all part of its ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The settlement plan remains subject to approval in in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
