If you're looking for a top tier athlete at wide receiver, Garrett Wilson is your guy.

"My mom didn't like that one, when they used 'freak' to describe me," Wilson joked at the NFL Combine in reference to what announcers said during a game broadcast.

Wilson can really move, posting a 4.38 second time in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. He's not overly big at 6'0" and 183 pounds, but believes he can win a fight for the ball against anyone.

"I feel like I do a good job of going up and getting the 50-50 balls," Wilson said. "I play bigger than my size and I feel like I play with a whole lot of passion. I feel like you can see the competitiveness and the passion pour out of me when I'm on the field."

He joined the Buckeyes as a 5-star recruit out of the Austin, Texas area, playing immediately with 30 receptions for 432 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 13 games as a true freshman. Wilson followed that up 43 catches for 723 yards and six TDs in the abbreviated 8 game schedule in 2020, earning 1st team All-Big Ten honors by the coaches.

This past season was Wilson's breakout, earning 2nd team All-American honors with 70 catches for 1058 yards and 12 TDs in 11 games. It was the first true time Wilson was able to standout alongside fellow future 1st round pick Chris Olave.

"Being the competitors we are, we definitely compete in everything that we do," Wilson said. "Take the field practicing, we always wanted to push each other to be better and be the best. We definitely do. We have a great friendship and coming in as a freshman with him being a sophomore, he had done everything I was hoping to do, so it was awesome seeing that."

Wilson showcased versatility at the position over his time at OSU, playing on the inside and out.

"I feel like this past season moving back outside was good for my development," Wilson said. "Seeing DBs in my face. Longer cornerbacks. I feel like that translates everywhere, so I feel I can do both for sure."

Some wonder if Wilson can withstand the physical nature of the NFL game and beat press coverage and could use improvement in route running.

Still, Wilson's believed to be in the running as the first WR selected in the draft and has already been compared to the Bills top target.

"Stefon Diggs is a great player and for someone to make that comparison, that's awesome," Wilson said. "I take a lot of pride in that. It's awesome, but I like to think I bring different things to the table. I don't want to strive to play like anyone. Everyone is special for their own reasons. I definitely take things from other receivers games and try and add it to my game."
