BUFFALO, N.Y. — Hundreds of people are protesting against Erie County’s mask mandate.

On Monday, they gathered in Niagara Square then marched to the Rath Building.

Last month, a few local town supervisors also pushed back against the county’s mandate.

During a town board meeting Monday night, Grand Island residents and council members shared their opinions on the mask mandate. Ultimately the board decided to go against the current mandate and asked county and state health officials to not enforce the mandates within Grand Island.

The mandate is part one of a four-phase plan from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz to help slow the spread of COVID cases and hospitalizations.
