After each of the Buffalo (Toronto) Blue Jays' series this season, Spectrum News Sports Reporter Greg Vorse will provide a quick look into how the Jays stacked up on their journey to get Buffalo into the playoffs.
The Good: We now know when the Jays will fly home to Buffalo for their first game and that is Wednesday, August 11, when they host the Miami Marlins for a two game mini-series that starts a five-game home stand. They will play a total of 25 regular season games at Sahlen Field including seven against the Yankees and three with the Mets.
The Bad: The Jays opened the season with a 2-1 series loss down in Tampa Bay against the Rays. Buffalo (Toronto) started the series with a 6-4 win, one in which former Bisons were the key to success with recent players Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, Vlad Guerrero Jr., Rowdy Tellez, and Teoscar Hernandez combining for 5 hits, 4 runs, and 5 RBI. Unfortunately for the Jays, that momentum was short-lived as they dropped the next two games of the three-game set 4-1 and 6-5 to lose their opening.
The Ugly: After five and a half innings on Sunday, the Jays were up 4-0 and in line for a 2-1 series win of their own. That's when the wheels feel off as they gave up four unanswered runs to the Rays who forced extra innings. Buffalo (Toronto) took advantage of the new rule that puts a runner on second in extra innings to take a 5-4 lead, but in the bottom half of the frame they gave up a pair to ultimately fall 6-5 and lose their first series as the MLB team of the Queen City.
The Jays' first home game is Tuesday, August 11 against the Miami Marlins.
