Bishop Richard Malone still refuses to step down as head of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, despite many calls for his resignation from parishioners, priests and elected leaders.
Now more people from outside Western New York are starting to call for his removal.
The president and founder of Road to Recovery, a group that helps victims of sexual abuse, stood outside St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan where Cardinal Timothy Dolan was saying mass.
Robert Hoatson held a sign reading "Dolan: Rescue Buffalo Diocese,” hoping the cardinal would consider taking action.
"Cardinal Dolan, if he does intervene, would probably talk to the papal nuncio in Washington D.C., that's the representative of the Pope in the U.S. and then say it's got to go to Pope Francis,” Hoatson said. “Pope Francis has to ask for Bishop Malone's resignation, or fire him."
Hoatson calls the past few years in the Buffalo diocese "a nightmare."
Dolan is reportedly watching the ongoing crisis in the Buffalo diocese very closely.
