A former Buffalo restaurant manager could be deported for employing undocumented immigrants.

Jose Sanchez-Ocampo was convicted of unlawfully employing 10 undocumented immigrants for a year while managing four Mexican restaurants in the area, including Don Tequila on Allen Street.

He was sentenced to the time he already served, but he now may be deported by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy announced Tuesday.

The four well-known restaurants he managed, which also include Agave on Elmwood Avenue, El Agave in Cheektowaga, and La Divina in Kenmore were the subject of an investigation that began in 2014.

Prosecutors alleged that the restaurants employed dozens of people without legal permission to work in the U.S., and provided nearby housing in exchange for long hours at the restaurant and cash under the table.

Last month, the restaurants' owner, Sergio Mucino, was sentenced to a year in prison for his role in the crime. He's also ordered to pay back more than $1 million in assets for failure to pay income tax.
