BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has been arrested and charged for his alleged involvement in the attack on the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. on January 6.

Federal officials say Thomas Sibick attacked a Metropolitan police officer while at the riots, and buried his police badge in his backyard when he returned to New York.

The court document contains pictures of Sibick, which appear to show him allegedly holding a riot shield and posting on social media during the event, alongside surveillance images.

According to the court document, Sibick maintains that he was attempting to pull the officer away from an unsafe situation, and ended up grabbing the officer's badge and radio.

At first Sibick allegedly told FBI agents three different stories of where he threw away the radio and badge, but later admitted that he buried the badge and wanted to return it.

Sibick is facing multiple charges, which include obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, assaulting or impeding officers, and taking a thing of value by force or intimidation.

Sibick will virtually be back in federal court on Tuesday at noon.
