22 (Round 1) - K'Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU - 6'3" 254lbs.
Why: The Bills top needs in this draft are EDGE and WR and many will debate which one they need more. The WR group is extremely deep and in this case Buffalo can afford to wait on a pass catcher, especially with Chaisson on the board. He is easily the second best pass rusher in the draft behind Chase Young. Chaisson has extraordinary bend needed to get beyond the tackle and destroy quarterbacks. In 2019 for the Tigers he racked up 60 tackles and 6.5 sacks during LSU's national championship season. Add to that this need being expedited if the Bills lose Shaq Lawson in free agency.
How it happens: Right now Chaisson looks like a lock to go in the teens, but if a run on offensive tackle, six or seven before pick 22, and quarterback five ahead of the Bills could push a stud like K'Levon down the board.
Matt Parrino (NYUP.com) take: "Chaisson It reminds me a lot of what I saw in Ryan Burns in last years draft. I think its that kind of value later in the first round. He adds a lot of value. You have Jerry Hughes coming back, you can still be getting an upgrading version of Hughes. He would be an absolute smashing HR."
54 (Round 2) - Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor - 6'3" 207lbs.
Why: Bills need wide receivers and big bodied ones at that, enter Denzel Mims. Standing 6'3" with 33 7/8 inch arms he has a massive catch radius, something Josh Allen desperately needs. He is also a monster when it comes to the 50/50 so he gives Buffalo the "throw it up and get it" pass catcher they tried to get in Kelvin Benjamin.
How it happens: The Bills would need several teams to wait on WR also believing it is a tremendously deep class. If that happens they could strike gold with a first round talent falling to the second.
Parrino's take: "That's a home run because I think he's in play at 22. There may or may not be a run on WRs. I like him hes a big body guy, hes got some speed, I love his attitude hs loves blocking as much as going up to get a ball. He's got that mentality and this receiving core has that missing. They need to upgrade that spot, He's an upgrade over Duke. If you get him at 54, run to the podium."
86 (Round 3) - Michael Pittman, Jr., WR, USC 6'4" 219lbs.
Why: Yes the Bills took a big WR at #54, but guess what you do when you are in dire need of something? You take a few swings at it! Pittman is a legit athlete that specializes in physicality.
How it happens: Basically the same thing as Mims in that teams continue to be willing to wait as even in the third they should be able to get contributors at WR.
Parrino's take: "You're not only doubling up on WR, you're doubling up in skill set. I just don't know from a value perspective if the Bills hit the WR in FA if they double up that early especially in Day 2. Fans will probably be cheering, because you can throw it all at the wall until something sticks. John Brown is great, had a great season, but you still need to go find yourself that #1."
*From here on out if guys may or may not be available is a crap shoot, but I will take a stab at who and why.
128 (Round 4) - Leki Fotu, IDL, Utah 6'5" 337lbs.
Why: This is a mountain of a man that plays with the nasty edge that Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane look for. He also provides depth as Harrison Phillips continues to recover and Star Lotulelei isn't getting any younger.
155 (Round 5) - AJ Dillon, RB, Boston College 6'0" 247lbs
Why: You could argue that Dillon is the most physical back in this year's draft. He is the perfect thunder to Devin Singletary's lighting.
167 (Round 5) - Kenny Willikes, LB, Michigan State 6'3" 264lbs.
Why: Bills could use a little more depth at LB and Willikes has the grit and tenacity that McDermott and Beane love. As a former walk-on for the Spartans he has fought for everything and poured every ounce of his ability into his game.
188 (Round 6) - Trey Adams, OL, Washington 6'8" 318lbs.
Why: Adams is a monster of a human, after Mekhi Becton he most be the most imposing figure among the OL group. Injuries and a bit of a lack of motor hindered him at Washington, but at pick 188 it's worth taking a shot.
201 (Round 6) - Khaleke Hudson, S/LB, Michigan 5'11" 218lbs.
Why: Hudson is one of the most versatile players in the draft and McDermott loves to talk "position flexibility." At Michigan he was their "viper" who basically was asked to play LB, S, Nickel Corner, and Pass Rusher.
207 (Round 6) - Nick Coe, EDGE, Auburn 6'5" 280lbs.
Why: He won a state championship in wrestling.
