The last several days have not been terribly cold, but it has been cool for May since last last week.   That trend will come to an end later this week.

Tuesday afternoon will still be cooler than average though.  Normal, or average, highs for this point in May are near 80 in central North Carolina.  Most locations will be more than 10 degrees cooler than that Tuesday with highs just in the mid to upper 60s.

Temperatures will then drop to the 40s again Tuesday night making for another cool start Wednesday morning.

A warming trend is forecast for the second half of the week.  Wednesday's highs will still just reach reach the upper 60s to near 70, but highs should soar to near 80 Thursday and the mid 80s Friday.

The weekend will feel a lot like summer with highs in the upper 80s.  A few spots in the Sandhills may even hit 90.

The warmer temperatures that arrive at the end of this week and the upcoming weekend may be here to stay a while.  The outlook through next week suggests warmer than average temperatures are likely across most of the eastern United States including North Carolina.
