GREENSBORO, N.C. — Customers and employees returned Thursday to the Food Lion on Lawndale Avenue for the first time since Greensboro Police Officer Michael Horan was shot and killed.
The grocery store had been closed since that deadly encounter Monday morning.
Ramona Miller and her 6-year-old granddaughter were among the customers in the store when the gunfire started.
“One of the employees yelled, ‘Shooting, shooting! Everybody get out, get out!’ and at that point everybody rushed to the door,” Miller said.
She said she doesn't live in the area, but the store is close to her grandchildren’s home and is a convenient stop when she babysits.
“My in-laws used to live in this area, so I always felt safe at this location, and I know this is an isolated incident, but even the day after this happened I was nervous to go into places like Walmart,” Miller said.
Food Lion previously said it would provide resources to employees after this shooting.
