Democratic Rep. Don Davis won his reelection bid for North Carolina's 1st Congressional District in eastern North Carolina. The race was seen as the only competitive U.S. House election in the state this year.

Davis was elected to replace longtime Rep. G.K. Butterfield. After redistricting by the GOP-led North Carolina General Assembly last year, the reliably Democratic district was seen as a tossup.

The Democrat won by more than 1.5% over Republican challenger Laurie Buckhout, according to unofficial results from the North Carolina State Board of Elections. At the end of the night, Davis came out with more than 5,800 more votes than Buckhout.

Buckhout did not concede the race until Wednesday afternoon.

"Don Davis ran a spirited campaign, and I congratulated him on his hard-fought victory earlier today. While Don and I have different visions, it is obvious to everyone he cares about this district," she said on X.

"We have to get our economy back on track and we have to secure our border. Congressman Davis said the same during this campaign and I hope he will work with the Trump Administration to help make this happen. The people of Eastern North Carolina deserve no less," Buckhout said.

In his own statement, Davis said, "My deep passion lies in fighting for the families of eastern North Carolina. I'm wholeheartedly dedicated to understanding and addressing the challenges and aspirations of everyday citizens in our community, and I genuinely appreciate all of our incredible supporters."

"As I prepare to continue my service in the 119th Congress of the U.S. House of Representatives, I eagerly look forward to working with colleagues from both parties and the newly elected Administration. Together, we can strive towards meaningful solutions that bring the American Dream back into the reach of our families," he said.
