One person is dead and another is seriously hurt following a small plane crash Tuesday in Guilford County.

The plane crashed about 11:30 a.m. on U.S. 421 South, just before the Julian exit and near the Monnett Road bridge. The highway was closed, but both lanes have since reopened. The aircraft was an experimental RV-12, National Transportation Safety Board said, and the agency is also investigating the crash.

A tarp covered part of the small plane, and FAA agents are en route to the crash scene, according to a captain with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.

The plane was carrying two people when it crashed. Details as to what caused the incident have not been released.

More information will be provided when it’s released. Please check back for updates on this developing story.
