SILER CITY, N.C. — Graduations across the state are back to being in-person events. Many high schools and colleges are prepping their seniors for the big day, including those at Jordan Matthews High School.

What You Need To Know

  • More than 150 seniors will be graduating in person at Jordan Matthews High School

  • Families are welcome, and they will be seated on the football field

  • Students are allowed to remove their masks while walking across the stage

  • Graduation is Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m.

Mandy Bass, a teacher at Jordan Matthews is in charge of getting the seniors prepared this year.

“This is my first year as woman in charge,” Bass said. “With it being something completely abnormal it's been a lot.”

Seniors at the high school weren’t sure if in-person graduation would happen until recently. They were called to the school on Wednesday to go through a rehearsal to make sure they knew where to go during Saturday’s event.

Although students are back to in-person graduation, they will still have several safety precautions. Students are still required to wear a mask until they’re seated but will be allowed to take them off again while they are crossing the stage to get their diploma.

Senior Jacqueline Marroquinn said she’s invited her entire family to the ceremony and believes they’ll be screaming her name when she crosses the stage.

“It’s unbelievable. Such an amazing experience. With everything happening, having this opportunity is a blessing” Marroquinn said.

The Jordan Matthew High School graduation is scheduled for June 12 at 10 a.m., weather permitting.
