No injuries were reported after a N.C. Highway Patrol helicopter crashed on a road just south of Raleigh Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened in the middle of Tyron Road near the state highway patrol training and driving facility.

According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, the Bell two-seater helicopter took off from Johnston Regional Airport in Smithfield at about 1:45 p.m. and crashed about 30 minutes later.

What led up to the crash and the task the crew was conducting at the time are all part of the investigation. Federal Aviation Administration records indicate the helicopter was built in 1971.
