WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Max, an American Staffordshire terrier, has a new home just in time for the holidays.

Three days ago, Chad Duffy and his wife adopted Max from the Wake County Animal Center.

Duffy says his family was looking for a dog to run with and Max was the perfect choice.

In fact, running got Max to the shelter in the first place. He was brought to the shelter following a charity run in Dunn in which Max came out of nowhere to join the runners for 15 miles.

"I think he could probably run a marathon if he really wanted to. He just has endless energy. We've done probably close to 20 miles with him in the past three days and I still can't contain his energy," Duffy said.

Duffy has advice for anyone else thinking about adoption. He says it's not for everyone and says it's something you have to prepare for, carefully.

If you're looking to adopt a pet, the Wake County Animal Center says it has extended its reduced-adoption-fees period through the rest of the year.
