CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC -- Fayetteville's mayor Mitch Colvin has plans of moving forward with a Civil War museum in downtown.
- During a press conference on December 16, he mentioned the need of having more community discussions about the museum
- The state House of Representatives approved $46 million to go into the museum
- In the state legislature, the Senate is expected to vote on having the Civil War museum in January
During a press conference on December 16, he mentioned the need of having more community discussions about the museum. By December 26, city leaders will be creating a community task force over the attraction. The group's job is to look at other cities which have similar museums and see what was done right and wrong.
The state House of Representatives approved $46 million to go into the museum. Fayetteville city leaders and Cumberland County commissioners agreed on an additional 15 million dollars.
"We have to build trust between the two sides or the community and the foundation," Colvin said. "I think they've been working on doing that. I think this will be a major step in that direction to allow regular citizens and pillars in our community to be a part of the discussion."
In the state legislature, the Senate is expected to vote on having the Civil War museum in January. No date is set on when the construction project could begin.
