Wednesday will be the hottest October 2 on record across central North Carolina. High temperatures in the mid 90s will break record highs set in 1986 in the Triangle and Sandhills.
The humidity will make it feel even hotter. The heat index will soar to near 100 around 2 to 4pm.

Thursday should be even hotter than Wednesday. Highs will soar to the mid and upper 90s shattering more record highs.
The heat index will reach as high as 100 to 103 in much of the region Thursday afternoon.
A cold front passing through the state Friday will finally bring cooler air to North Carolina for the weekend. Friday's highs will still top out near 90. Temperatures will then drop to the upper 50s late Friday night through early Saturday morning. Saturday's highs should just reach the mid 70s. We'll warm to near 80 and the low 80s Sunday.
The late week cold front is not expected to bring any rain to the area. Another cold front early next week may bring some showers to central North Carolina around late Monday or Tuesday. However, rainfall amounts should be rather light. The latest forecast data suggests a quarter of an inch of rain or less.
