RALEIGH, N.C. -- Work is getting underway on a major road project in Hillsborough. But, traffic isn't going to be affected by the work quite yet.

  • Work underway to replace the U.S. 70 bypass bridge over the Eno River
  • Current bridge is almost 80 years old
  • The new bridge is scheduled to open in July 2021.

Crews are starting on Monday morning on work to replace the U.S. 70 bypass bridge over the Eno River. They're starting out by building a temporary detour bridge next to the existing bridge.

That's expected to open in a few months.

Then, they'll tear out and replace the current bridge, which is almost 80 years old.

The new bridge is scheduled to open in July of 2021.
