RALEIGH, N.C. -- By late June, the normal high temperature in central North Carolina is near 90.  High temperatures will be near normal for Wednesday, but then above average for the rest of the week through at least the upcoming weekend.

Plenty of sunshine is in Wednesday's forecast.  That will send afternoon highs to 90 in the Triangle and to the low and mid 90s in the Sandhills.

Fortunately, Wednesday's humidity will not be to the oppressive levels we sometimes feel in summer.  That means the heat index, or feels like temperature, should be close to the actual temperature most of the day.

Hotter temperatures and higher humidity are expected for the rest of the week though.  Highs in the mid 90s are forecast from Thursday through the upcoming weekend.  The heat index will return to the upper 90s to near 100 by the weekend.

Very little chance for rain is expected for the next several days.
