HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. – Commissioners in Halifax County are calling on Sheriff Wes Tripp to give up half of his annual salary in order to give his deputies a bonus.
- Halifax County Commissioners are calling on the sheriff to give up 50 percent of his annual salary.
- They say if he gives up half, they'll give up their stipends.
- The sheriff responded on Facebook.
In a press release sent out Monday, the commissioners said they are looking to give all county employees more compensation.
Seeming to basically call out the sheriff, commissioners said they would give up 100 percent of their stipends, averaging around $9,000 a year, if Sheriff Wes Tripp gave up 50 percent of his annual salary of roughly $100,000, stating that he is the highest paid official in Halifax County; making more than sheriffs in surrounding areas.
Responding on Facebook, the sheriff’s office said “With all the facts presented supporting a pay raise for all county employees, I'm still wondering, is this the best they can come up with? Would they give up half of their retirement salaries or half of their business profits? I don't think so...”
The sheriff’s office Facebook page has been vocal about supporting raises for county employees.
