CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. -- Recreation dollars are being put to use with a goal of giving some folks a chance to have some splashy fun. County commissioners have funded and opened several splash pads throughout the area.

  • Those sites have opened in Eastover, Wade, Godwin and the Gray's Creek area just outside of Hope Mills.
  • The new splash pads are handicap accessible.
  • Another site should be opening soon and it will be located in Linden at the Little River Community Park.

Those sites have opened in Eastover, Wade, Godwin and the Gray's Creek area just outside of Hope Mills. Wille Burnette, the mayor of Godwin, explained why the splash pad for his community is such a big deal.

"A lot of people don't get to go to the beach. Never get a chance to go to a water park of any kind. They can come right out here and have fun," he said.

The new splash pads are handicap accessible. Another site should be opening soon and it will be located in Linden at the Little River Community Park.
