CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- An EF-1 tornado has been confirmed to have touched down in Siler City on Friday.

  • A tornado touched down in Siler City on Friday.
  • It happened in the northern part of the city near US-421.
  • No injuries were reported. 

The tornado started around 3:35 p.m. near Chatham Charter School in northern Siler City and appears to have worked its way around 2 miles north, just across US-421, ending about three minutes later.

Damages reported in the area include downed trees and limbs, downed power lines, and damage to the roofs of homes.

The maximum wind speeds are estimated between 95 and 105 mph, 5 mph short of making it an EF-2, with a span of 150 yards. 

Luckily, no injuries or fatalities were reported as a result of this tornado.
