HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. -- Doppler radar indicated a tornado touched down Friday evening near the northern Harnett County and southern Wake County line.

  • A small tornado touched down Friday afternoon.
  • It happened near the Harnett/Wake County line.
  • No injuries were reported. 

Minor damage was reported near the Duncan community, or southwest of Fuquay-Varina.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh conducted a survey and confirmed a tornado in Harnett County. The survey team verified an EF-0  tornado touched down just south of Raven Rock State Park with estimated wind speeds between 75-80 mph.

The tornado tracked northeast, crossing Hicks Road before progressing into the western portions of the state park. It uprooted and snapped hardwood trees.

The tornado then pushed north crossing the Cape Fear River before exiting the state park property. It was on the ground for roughly four minutes. No injuries or fatalities reported. 

There's an even greater risk for severe storms late Sunday and Sunday night.
