LUMBERTON, N.C. -- The love of baseball and the presence of a couple thousand tourists could bring a good hit to the economy of Lumberton both this weekend and next.
- 60 teams from 11 states will play
- Estimated to bring in between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000
- Kids ages 7-8 compete this weekend, 9-12 year olds play next weekend
Sixty teams are playing at the Dixie Youth World Series, that’s a total of 720 players from 11 states.
The Lumberton Youth Baseball Association says this event is good news for their city.
"It’s a huge impact,” said LYBA President Tim Locklear. “We had a lot of volunteers from all over the region, the county and the city. And it's huge just to have this event here."
The estimated impact to the Lumberton economy over this weekend and next could be between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000.
This weekend, kids ages 7 to 8 competed.
Next weekend, the 9 to 12 year olds will play.
