FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr. has had many jobs in his more than 25 years as a North Carolina educator.

He's been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and administrator. But now, he has a new title...Superintendent of Schools for Cumberland County.

Connelly was announced as the choice to oversee the state's fifth largest school system Wednesday afternoon by the Board of Education of Cumberland County.

Board members told us that his wealth of experience in many different areas of education made him standout among the 31 people who applied for the superintendent's position. Connelly succeeds Dr. Frank Till, whose contract was bought out by the Board of Education last July.

The new superintendent has another thing on his resume that will fit in well in Cumberland County. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he rose to the rank of Major as an intelligence officer.

Spectrum News reporter David Ivey shows us why people are really excited about Connelly leading the school system.
