FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --You could really feel the excitement in the City Council chambers on Wednesday.
Officials for both the city and Cumberland County held a signing ceremony to mark the occasion of an agreement between the two government bodies to jointly fund a new baseball stadium downtown. Part of that arrangement will come from revenue that the county will receive from a special tax district that will be located in property close to the stadium.
Construction is already going on at the stadium site, which is located across the street from City Hall.
It's believed that around $100 million in investments will be made in the area once the stadium is finished in 2019 when the Class A franchise of the World Series champs, the Houston Astros, will begin home play.
