State officials are investigating after police shot and killed a man inside a Winston-Salem home Sunday night, according to police, who also found a man dead inside.

Reports came in about a break-in on the 3800 block of Queen Anne Circle late Sunday night.

When they got to the home, officers reported hearing gunshots and began evacuating nearby residents, police said.

As officers cleared a scene of people, Michael Preston-Robinson II emerged with a gun, prompting an officer to fire and kill him, according to a police news release.

After going through the home, they found the body of Chrishawn Tyquese Watson, police said. He appeared to have an apparent gunshot wound.

Two children were also in the home at the time and unharmed, police said.

Police said Preston-Robinson was out on bond for multiple charges, including assault on a female and domestic violence.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, common procedure when a police officer shoots someone.
