GREENSBORO, N.C. — Cone Health staff participated in a mock exercise Monday to move patients from Women's Hospital to the new Cone Health Women's and Children's Center.
- New facility will be one of only a few hospitals to offer couplet care in the U.S.
- Actual tranport is scheduled for February 23, 2020
- Officials expect just under 100 ambulance rides for tranpsorts
The new facility is one of only a few hospitals in the country to have couplet care, so the patient having the baby can be in the same room as the baby receiving intensive care.
The rooms are also larger with a designated area for the patient's family. Some of the private rooms also have patios.
"We've been working on this for over three years and we're just excited about what we're about to offer to the patients in our community and i think all the women in Guilford County will be very pleased with what we're offering them," said Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology Chair, Dr. Carolyn Harraway-Smith.
The actual transport will take place on February 23rd, and there are expected to be just under 100 ambulance rides.
After the transport happens, the old facility will be used for outpatient care for pregnant women until other facilities are built.
