WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- In a 6-2 vote by the Winston-Salem City Council, the Dixie Classic Fair has officially been renamed the Carolina Classic Fair.
The vote is a long time coming. For months the public has expressed their support or lack thereof for the name change.
Dixie has traditionally been a nickname for southern states, especially those that made up the Confederacy.
Back in the 50s, Black people attended a separate fair called the Western Carolina Colored Fair.
