BURLINGTON, N.C.-- Residents are voicing their concerns about what they call repeated flooding in the Overbrook Terrace neighborhood.
One woman said the water causes an odor that flares up her asthma. She's racked up $800 in medical bills and is pleading for the city's help.
“They gave us some suggestions for what we can do within our own property to try and alleviate some of the flooding issues,” said Diana Lester. “We followed every suggestion they gave us and continue to have problems and even worsening issues.”
City officials have been working on a plan for the past year, but they don’t have a program in place to repair or change private property.
However, they estimate is could host $20,000 to repair.
“We’ve been able to identify where we can put in a drain at the corner of the Overbook Terrace that will start to alleviate some of those issues,” said Morgan Lasater, Community Engagement Manager for the City of Burlington.
They plan to discuss changes to drainage policy to help with private property projects at a work session on November 4.
