SALEMBURG, N.C. — Every law enforcement officer in the state receives some sort of training through the North Carolina Justice Academy.

Part of that training involves driving courses to help officers keep safe while driving.

What You Need To Know

  •  The North Carolina Justice Academy test track was recently repaved

  •  State lawmakers funded the repair

  •  It was the first time it had been repaved in 20 years

  • Officers who do the training will then train other law enforcement officers

The academy’s campus in Salemburg, east of Fayetteville, recently got a major upgrade — a newly repaved test track.

“You can’t go out in the parking lot of Walmart and do this training,” said Terry Miller with the N.C. Justice Academy.

He says the track has needed repair for a long time.

“There was cracks in the pavement where you could basically stick two fingers in the cracks. So if those cars, if they were driving around and hit one of the cracks, it has the potential to roll over, catching a tire,” Miller said.

State lawmakers funded the track renovation, which was the first in 20 years.

“That’s what we are all about here,” Miller said. "We’re teaching them how to train the other officers how to be safe.”
