  • The Cary duplex is damaged and will take time to repair

  • During a rainstorm a couple of weeks ago, another tree toppled over onto a home down the street from Templeton Street

Resident Jenna Donkle said she was shocked after a tree fell onto her neighbor's home late Monday evening.

“It’s sad, I came out of the car like what the heck is going on,” Donkle said.

Donkle said she got home about an hour or two after the tree limb snapped.

She said her neighbor from across the street, who also lives next door to the damaged home, told her what they heard.

“He said, it sounds like a train smashed through something. Everyone came out,” Donkle said.

During a rainstorm a couple of weeks ago the neighbors said another tree toppled over onto a home down the street.

After this latest round of severe weather, Donkle believes the storm played a role, but it could also be because of the tree’s condition.

“It's been here for forever. It's beautiful. But I guess there's just been rotting. That's what my neighbor told me. That's what I heard from a few other people,” Donkle said. “It's just rotting from the inside, and nobody expected it to fall.”

Police said no one was hurt.

Donkle is thankful and said everyone nearby knows each other. She said she wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to any of her neighbors.

“There’s a man that lives on the left and then a couple on the right, and they're all very sweet, but I know it's really unfortunate,” Donkle said.

Moving forward, Donkle said she will keep an eye out for the trees surrounding her home, which stand only feet away from her residence.

Donkle said she wishes there was an easy way to monitor trees ahead of bad weather coming in. But she will now be on the lookout for any rotten trees in the neighborhood that could damage homes.
