GREENSBORO, N.C. — A nonprofit in the Triad is working to increase resources in communities across the state.

Turning Everything Around will host its second community resource festival and hiring event Sept. 28.

Last year, more than 250 people attended the event.

Turning Everything Around founder Lisa McMillan said that leading up to the festival, the group will host tours through east and north Greensboro neighborhoods to experience the differences in access to program businesses.

“There is a lack of sufficient resources for the community to easily access so they can change their situation and move from surviving to actually thriving, so we are going to see some things that are not in the community that are based on census data... contributing to the lack of a thriving community,” McMillan said.

This year's event will include access to career and development opportunities, health screenings and local vendors.

The group is also working to branch out to other cities and neighborhoods around the state to help more people.

“We have been developing a way to scale it and are developing similar models here in Guilford County and other parts of North Carolina, because that's the whole point, if we work together, we can be impactful in our communities,” McMillan said.
