COASTAL -- The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will be closed overnight this week to allow crews to complete work on the bridge's control house.

The bridge is closing to traffic between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. until Thursday.

Now that crews have completed work to weather-proof the control house, North Carolina Department of Transportation officials say they now need to remove the scaffolding.

Officials say the overnight closures will allow the work to happen safely.

Transportation officials recommend drivers who need to get around the closure use the Isabel Holmes Bridge or Interstate 140.
