CHARLOTTE, N.C. – People of all ages were rallying for climate change with the help of an international activist.

  • Greta Thunberg joined a rally in Charlotte Friday
  • Hundreds of people showed up to hear her speak
  • Mary Ellis says she will continue to strike at the government center every Friday

Greta Thunberg joined a rally in Charlotte Friday afternoon at the government center in uptown. She has been speaking around the world with political leaders and other activists.

Her work inspired Mary Ellis Stevens, a freshman at Meyers Park High School. Mary Ellis says Greta sent her a message on Twitter Wednesday telling her she’d be joining her weekly climate strike.

Hundreds of people showed up to hear Greta speak and inspire a city to push for change.

“Humanity is now standing at a crossroads, and when we look back at this crucial time, we want to be able to say that we did everything we possibly could to push the world in the right direction,” she told the crowd.

Mary Ellis says she will continue to strike at the government center every Friday at 3 p.m. and she hopes more people will join her.
